Just a Part of the Pattern

Above, detail of Just a Part of the Pattern

My medium is pastel and my work is essentially figurative, but I do not just want to paint portraits or figures. My influences come from many places: travel, myth, literature, old movies, and documentaries. Sometimes my paintings evoke moods. Often models or their poses suggest what I do with rest of the painting. Color is an essential part of my creations.

Carol Doenecke received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964. But it was not until 1979 that she began to paint seriously. Since then, she has received many awards for her pastels and has shown them in invitational and juried exhibitions in 22 states and two Canadian provinces.
